THE LAST LECTURE.

On July 25,2008 Professor Randy Pausch, professor of computer science at the Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) breathed his last at the age of 47.

He was the author of five books and over 70 articles and the director of Alice project.

What is special about "The Last Lecture"?.
"The Last Lecture" was delivered on September 18,2007, the talk was so appealing that the lecture went off to become one of the most downloaded items in the video sharing site YOU TUBE.
The link for this video is given below....

The success of the video led to the book "The Last Lecture" written by Professor Randy along with Jeff Zaslow; this book went on become the "No.1 Best Seller" in 30 languages globally.

"The Last Lecture" is a talk globally acclaimed for its inspiration; it is a thought-provoking , yet fun-filled lecture, with lots of wit, several insights and tons of advice.
I am grateful to my cousin who introduced to his works. I am deeply Influenced and admire Professor Pausch.

What is special about the talk is the backdrop of "sure death" predicted just months away. What is amazing is the fact that the learned professor could demonstrate an uncanny positive attitude amidst such adversity.
The lecture was supposed to be for his young children who would grow one day to appreciate the "words of wisdom" of the father; it was aptly titled "Realizing Your Childhood Dreams".

Some of his note-worthy insights in to life are :
"you want the secret of my success?...come on, I will tell you; do come at 10pm on any Friday to my lab!".

"Experience is what you get when you did not get what you wanted".

He never missed his wit,..during his lecture he showed off the old encyclopedia and said "for freshers, it is paper; we used to have something called books".

Time magazine declared him as one of the "100 most influential people".

His statement at the end of the lecture: "I am not in denial mode; I am giving my "last lecture" before death; yet, I do not know how not to fun; I am going to keep having fun on everyday I have left".

Until his death, he was quoting his wry jokes, he died with his trademark intellect and quick wit intact.

I am a music lover. I love my dose of Bollywood music. So. here it is my Top 10 songs of the year 2008.Some tracks like 'pehli nazar' from Race have not been included even though it became a huge hit, because those weren't original tracks. The only criteria for this list is OST's and my likeliness towards the songs.

TOP 10 OF 2008

1. Rock On (Rock On, Shankar Ehsaan Loy).
2. Kabhi Kabhi (Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, A.R.Rahaman).
3. Zara Si (Janaat,Pritam).
4. Phas Gaya (Amair, Amit Trivedi).
5. Khwaja mere Khwaja (Jodha Akbar, A.R.Rahman).
6. Dil Haara (Tashan, Vishal Shekar).
7. Aai Paapi (Kismat Konnection, Pritam).
8. Tu Muskura (Yuvvraaj, A.R.Rahaman).
9. Desi Girl (Dostana, Shankar Ehsaan Loy).
10. Aahisita Aahista (Bachna Ae Hasseno, Vishal Shekar)

I would also like to recommend and mention the sound track of 'Slum dog Millionaire' by A.r.Rahman in collaboration with MIA.It's just outstanding like the movie. It deserves every ounce of praise it is been showered with.

Satyam Shocker

Satyam Computer Ltd is termed as the ENRON of India. Enron was a big company and it also cooked its books and was exposed as a gigantic fraud in corporate history. Satyam is facing similar situation and faces lawsuit galore.

Satyam deserves to be rescued.Unlike Enron which was running in loses, Satyam had managed to make some profits. Rescuing such big company is no child's game. But, it must be done not for the sake of its reputation , but for the sake of its employees and the IT sector.

The government has done its job by appointing new board of directors. The best way, that I feel to rescue Satyam is for the government to consult N.R.Narayana Murthy.

Yes, he is not in the new board of directors appointed nor is he interested. But, I think he is the person who has the capacity and credibility to rescue the company from its current plight.

As they say, it is better to save the ship than just salvage something from the wreckage.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE: A tale of Mumbai.

First things first,yes!..this movie is not released in India. So, the question is how did I manage to watch this superb film??.

My impatience got the better of me. So, I watched Slum dog millionaire on a pirated CD and am impressed. As someone who has never seen Mumbai from close quarters, this film has given me a whole new opinion about the city. This movie shows the despair of Dharavi which is gritty and scary.

It cut terrifying close to the reality as it took me straight in to the innards of this brutal world.Where kids lose their innocence at the hands of gangsters who kidnap and kill at will. And the first thought that came to my mind was that it took an 'outsider'(dir:Boyle) to go fearlessly in to the 'forbidden land' and hold a mirror to our society. I wonder why some of our desi directors have failed in spelling out the ugly truth about Mumbai's underbelly as transparently??. Boyle's film deserves to win an Oscar for this.

Mira Nair had skimmed the surface and had given us 'Salaam Bombay'. But, no one has been able to hand us such pathos and at the same time keep us paralysed during the whole movie.

The casting of this movie is extraordinary. The script is awesome, as each scene is handled with utmost care.Dev patel's patel performance as Jamal, the slumdog who wins on the show, must be given great praise. Finally, the music of A.R.Rahaman mesmerises all...so, he deserved to win the Gloden Globe ....Oscar's next!!.

Boyle has shown us the rather hideous face of the metropolis that still remains the magnet for the rest of India.
The movie deserved to win the 4 golden globe that it recieved. The movie is a winner all the way. My advice for everyone would be, watch this film its abrilliant way to start the new year!!.

Scientists Discover Way to Levitate Tiny Objects

U.S. scientists have found a way to levitate the very smallest objects using the strange forces of quantum mechanics, and said they might use it to help make tiny nanotechnology machines. They said they had detected and measured a force that comes into play at the molecular level using certain combinations of molecules that repel one another

2008:The year gone by...

One of my resolutions for the new year was to setup my own blog and to update it regularly. So, here it starts..

As, I begin my journey in to 2009,I would like to look on somethings that 2008 taught everyone or at least tried to.

There was economic meltdowns, elections, terrorists strikes, corruption and many things similar. Some good and some really bad ones. So,perhaps 2008 hasn't taught us much.!!!

The rich get bailouts out of need, the poor are pandered to do with subsidies. The logic was, if the rich fail, we all suffer; if the poor fail, well..firstly they are poor. So, what else do you expect??.
Terrorism is now a reality show, we must all learn to live with.We can no longer go shopping, take a train, have dinner without fearing a possible strike at the back of one's mind. Unfortunately, 2009 is also expected to fail on that front!!!.

Nobody remembers anything. So, lets not bother about history.Remember, cash-for-votes??.Once something is off the limelight it disappears.Yesterday lives on another planet.
We are more interested in film stars, celebrities, cricketers, news and tragedies. Our cricketers should perform every time...'coz we are customers.

Finally, 2008 has made us fell there are ups and downs in life. This is our biggest learning from this year.Since, we choose to forget, we will forget this too.
